I am excited to announce that coming the 15th of September those of you who didn't get a chance to see Field Lab at the RedDeer Museum will get a chance to see it again at the University of Lethbridge Gallery. I was approached by Josephine Mills at the University a while back about putting in a show with Lyndal Osborne. This show is called Cereal Gen (Lyndal's idea I think)

This show runs from September 15th to October 24th

I have been invited to exhibit with several other artists at the Red Deer Museum, located in Red Deer Alberta. There are three shows as part of the museums summer/fall programming (seeding, growth, and harvest) The Uni-Farm will be part of the first section of programming from May 1 through June.

As far as comments go, I am going to take it that the premier screening of Uni-Farm: Ep 1 Employee Misconduct has been a success. Just sitting in the audience that night and experiencing vicariously the delight of everyone present was re-affirming to say the least. It is of course a credit to all of the amazing talent both onscreen and off that it, well.. that it happened at all, most importantly my best friend Pamella Stewart. I would also like the profusely thank the very nice folks at Em/Media Production Society [Eric, Vicki, Tom, Shelly, Peter] for their financial assistance through the Bars n' tone program on this project, as well as their subsequent funders.

An interesting piece of news today. A video, which I submitted on a whim to a project in Toronto by Suzanne Carte-Blanchenot and Su-Ying Lee called Under New Management’s Video Rental Store, was recently reported interminably missing by the creators. I am surprised I heard back at all! apparently it was taken out twice and not returned the second time. Did I just get scammed? I don't know as though I care all that much. Here are some pictures.

Dear Alex,

The New Management team would like to extend our appreciation to you for the donation of your work. The video rental store was received very well by the surrounding community and the artists’ videos were flying off the shelves!

As you may recall, an integral element of the video store is the opportunity for exchange. The pay-what-you-wish rental fee was meant to be a reflection of the value of the viewer’s experience watching the video. Your video was rented 2 times over the course of twelve days from August 2 – 15, 2010. Unfortunately the last renter did not return it

Here are some behind the scenes pictures from a recent video shoot for Uni-Farm: Episode 1. These were taken by my good friend Sean Esopenko who was recently married to Ljubica Todorovic I guess now Esopenko aswell.

I want to thank them and their parents for putting up with the extra headache I caused them around their special day. I am eternally grateful.
Also Garrett Baumgartner did a stunning job on this shoot with my makeshift camera gear.

I recently discovered that Uni-Farm: Episode 1 will receive support from EmMedia Production Society. As such we will be moving forward with production in the coming months. Look for it at the Plaza Theater sometime in September I think. Pictures to come, possibly even a rough cut or trailer if I can find somewhere to serve it.

Laboratory of Feminist Pataphysics: Ateliers of the Near Future

Mireille Perron's project Ateliers of the Near Future has invited my project Uni-Farm to present along side 12 other artists responding to her sculptures at Stride Gallery from April 16th - May 29th, 2010.

Uni-Farm Laboratories is on its way to engineering a system that defies not only conventional farming, but nature itself. Pushing staff to the limit of productivity the Uni-Farm envisions a utopia of genetic intellectual privatization, where it can be free to prohibit all rogue genetic material. There is one thing standing in its way however... Seeds.

Last night was quite reaffirming for me to see the outcome and reception of my work Uni-Farm: Boardroom Forefathers at the Alberta Printmaker's Society. I met some amazing people and I know this peoject will go far. To those of you who could not make it to the first performance for the opening, you still have time. I am doing a second performance at the Society on July 17th. People may start gathering at 6:30pm like last evening but the performance will start at 7:00pm. also if you would simply like to take in the installation you may do so at any time until the end of July. If you would like to become a shareholder of the uni-farm bring $2.00 with you to the opening on the 17th and you recieve a signed print momento of the occasion for your collections, this will also get you on the mailing list.

This is the first performance of Boardroom forefathers. Be prepared to be outraged. All visitors to the opening performance, and any subsequent performances, become honorary Shareholders of the Uni-Farm Corporation. Shareholder meeting pamphlets will be available for $2.00 as limited edition signed pieces of art for your collections. You will not be required to participate in the performance apart from sitting and enjoying the mayhem, but feel free to bring your cameras or video devices to film or capture the event however you like, just post it somewhere someone can find it.

Motivated by a distain towards industrial un-sustainability and consumer irresponsibility, My ongoing project Uni-Farm attempts to disarm self-serving incoherent corporate rhetoric. Over the course of time and crisis the Uni-Farm came to own all of the means of food production in North America, forcing farmers under their employment. Unsatisfied with its current market position, The Uni-Farm has expanded its sphere of influence far beyond the farming systems developed in Uni-Farm Labs. Based on its Opremium seed-printing system, The Uni-Farm presents Uni-Farm Gardener Pro, a domestic design software package making gardening easier for you and your family.

The Uni-Farm is an ongoing project and a guiding aesthetic force to disarm a sort of government/corporate rhetoric that exists in our collective consciousness. As a fictional corporate entity the Uni-Farm can absorb rhetorical theories and subsequent artifacts under its general umbrella of incoherence. In doing so I can turn these elements into modes of criticism.

We exist in a confusing environment where we are easily persuaded to squander our freedoms for the fleeting conveniences and safety of urban bliss. This is accomplished through various scenarios which include green-washing, radical free market models, and shareholder irresponsibility.

Compounded by crisis capitalism and a contrived fear of destabilized food supplies, a generational estrangement from the family farm allowed the Uni-Farm to blackmail and monopolize the food industry apart from a few rogue activists.

This web log will be a repository for the stories and images of this dark hypothetical human condition called the Uni-Farm.

The Uni-Farm has no relation to products, services, businesses, people or properties currently existing/alive or dead. any Instance is purely coincidental. If you take any issue with the use of "Uni-Farm" not "unifarm" or "uni farm" or if you feel it encroaches/taints your business/family image please hug your grandchild and fuck off. Blogs are not your personal suing ground. This is a story and an art project here people.
